Debussy's Clair de Lune
Given that Debussy's music is apparently so concerned with mood and colour, it is somewhat unexpected to discover that, according to one author, many of his greatest works appear to have been structured around mathematical models even while using an apparent classical structure such as sonata form.

Sound like cool piece of jazz. In the french musical history, obviously rather poor, J.P Rameau wrote a treaty about harmony with lot of reference to maths :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Philippe_Rameau#Theoretical_works

There's obviously a strong relationship between music and maths. I just especially liked the visual representation of this piece -- it was beautiful to watch.

Beyond the math too, this piece seems to make people want to cry: http://www.musanim.com/youtube/ClairDeLuneCrying.html I was recently reminded of Clair De Lune as I ran across it on the Darjeeling Limited Soundtrack.

There are actually lots of beautiful videos once I started looking at the lists on their site, but this one is fantastic from a musical and mathematical point of view. Bach's Little Fugue will be familiar to anybody who has read the brilliant Gödel, Escher, Bach by Douglas Hofstadter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVadl4ocX0M

I wonder what quality in music makes people want to cry. Clair de Lune kind of resonates with my soul. It irritates me that I can't figure out why this is.

Never foget the time I cried to this tune and I also remember the end of "Oceans 11" The cast standing and watching the fountains in Vegas.

I can play this on the piano and knowing the music as I do and then "seeing" the music unfold like this simply takes my breath away. Now I can enjoy watching *and* listening to it. Marvellous!
