On the shortness of life

It is not that we have a short space of time, but that we waste much of it. Life is long enough, and it has been given in sufficiently generous measure to allow the accomplishment of the very greatest things if the whole of it is well invested.

I agree that this is true, but this statement limits itself to the perspective that we know everything there is to know about "life" itself. The core of my beliefs revolves around the idea that we do not know enough about "life" for everyone to be able to make a Unitarian, educated, and pragmatic decision on what to do with it. The fact that war still exists is the perfect example of the human race's misunderstanding of the true meaning of "life"; instead of living, the powers that be force us to kill.

This statement has weight because many don't see the VALUE in "life", thus making this statement VALUABLE - it provides a perspective on "life" that is relevant and may help someone come to a conclusion regarding their own "life". It serves a purpose. Many people cannot see the VALUE in "life" because they cannot see it's purpose, or find a purpose within it. "Life" is either taken for granted, or the true fundamentals of "life" have been misinterpreted through the actions of others.

Ask yourself what your true values are, the reason why you get up morning after morning, and then ask someone who you have never met what their values are. If the two of you can agree on just one common value, ultimately, globally, the chances are higher that THAT value is more important than any other. "Life" is the only true "thing" that binds every conscious being together, it is something that we should all share together. If we can orient our VALUES, as a planet, to align with one common goal (say: "Life"?) I think that it would be much easier to come to an understanding about issues like war - the world might be a better place for everybody.

....I've been doing a lot of writing on this subject lately.

Now, I pose a question to everyone who's read this post:
"If you were the only human on the planet, would your values change from what you currently believe in?"

Depending on where I am in my life, I either believe life to be too short, or excessively long. Regardless, an eternal afterlife is something I do not hope for. Eventually, enough will be enough!

I don't agree with this. I am happy most of the time. I just want more time to do the things that make me happy. I don't feel I am wasting time at all. I think if you are busy you will perceive time as passing faster and want more. Maybe I could go without sleep.
